Our Environmental Claims

At Ohh! By Gum, we want the information we give you about the products we sell to be clear, useful and supported by appropriate evidence.

You may see information on our website about materials, certifications, manufacturing or other environmental and social characteristics of individual products.

We don't believe broad terms such as “eco-friendly” or “sustainable” tell you enough on their own. Wherever possible, we aim instead to tell you what a particular claim relates to and the information supporting it.

How we review product claims

Ohh! By Gum sells products from many different brands and suppliers. The environmental and social characteristics of one product may be very different from another.

We therefore review claims at the appropriate product, material, certification or brand level rather than assuming that a claim about one product applies to everything a brand makes.

We ask our suppliers for supporting information where relevant, including details about:

• material composition and percentages;

• recycled or organic content;

• recognised certifications and standards;

• manufacturing and supply-chain information;

• environmental or social claims supplied by the brand; and

• supporting reports, declarations or other evidence.

The type of evidence available varies by product and supplier.

Organic and recycled materials

Where we describe a product or material as organic or recycled, we aim to make clear what that description applies to.

For example, where information is available, a product description may identify the percentage of a particular material that is recycled rather than simply describing the entire product as “recycled”.

Where a certification is relevant, we may also identify the certification or standard supporting the claim.

Certifications and labels

Some of the products and brands we stock carry independently administered certifications or recognised standards.

Where we display or refer to a certification, we aim to identify what is certified and avoid suggesting that a certification applies to a whole product, brand or range when it relates only to a particular material, component or aspect.

Our B Corp certification

Ohh! By Gum is a Certified B Corporation™.

Certified B Corporations™, or B Corps™, are companies verified as meeting standards for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

B Corp certification applies to Ohh! By Gum as a company. It does not mean that every product sold by Ohh! By Gum is individually certified by B Lab.

Supplier information

As a retailer, much of the product-specific information we provide originates with the brands and suppliers that manufacture or supply the products we sell.

We are continually reviewing this information and asking suppliers for additional evidence where necessary.

Where sufficient information is not available to support a particular environmental claim, our approach is to amend, qualify or remove that claim rather than present it to customers without appropriate support.

Our aim is simple: to make specific claims where we have appropriate information to support them, explain what those claims relate to, and avoid making broader promises than the evidence supports.
